“Mercury is retrograde! What are we supposed to do? Should we just do nothing? Come on, tell me something—you’ve studied all this!”

After hearing variations of this for years, I finally reached the point where I thought, “Fine. I surrender.”

So I started writing.

“So, dear reader, here we go” I said.

And that is how AstroGezenti was born.

I'm Selin Burat, a consulting astrologer based in Istanbul and the founder of AstroGezenti, where I offer birth chart readings, synastry, relocation astrology, horary astrology and Feng Shui consultations.

​

At first, I introduced myself on Instagram and Facebook as “The Travelling Astrologer goes on a Diet.” I thought it was a perfectly good name at the time. Then I realised that there was no way to fit my love of music, the books I read, my drawings, and approximately a thousand other interests into that title.

I told myself it would pass.

It hasn’t. :)

And honestly, I’m quite happy about that.

Astrology: A Curiosity That Never Ends

​

For me, astrology is one of those rare subjects where there is always something new to discover.

I started studying astrology in 2006, at a time when I desperately needed a new area of interest to keep my mind occupied. There had been a curiosity about astrology inside me for years, so I finally decided to do something about it and began taking formal astrology classes.

I never really stopped.

Quite the opposite.

Over the years, I have studied different branches and traditions of astrology, read an unreasonable number of books, translated astrology texts, learned from teachers I deeply respect, and perhaps most importantly, worked with people and their charts.

​

Because that is where astrology becomes truly fascinating.

A birth chart is not simply a collection of planets, signs and houses. For me, a natal chart is a symbolic map that can help us look at ourselves from a more objective perspective: our patterns, motivations, talents, challenges, relationships and the different possibilities that may unfold at particular times in our lives.

This is also what I love about working as a consulting astrologer.

Every chart is different.

Every person asks different questions.

And I still find myself thinking, “Oh, that’s interesting…” far more often than I probably should. :)

A Background in Economics, Philosophy and Sociology

​

Before astrology became such a central part of my life, I studied Economics in English at Istanbul University.

Economics is, broadly speaking, about how limited resources are distributed within society.

Astrology, in my own understanding, is not all that far away from this idea.

A birth chart shows us the potentials and dynamics we are working with—and the kinds of experiences and timing we may encounter along the way.

So perhaps I never really wandered as far from economics as I thought.

And because apparently one university degree was not enough for my permanently curious brain, I later started studying Philosophy at Istanbul University.

After two years, I decided Philosophy was not quite where I wanted to continue, and moved on to Sociology instead.

Yes.

I have accepted that I simply cannot stop learning. :)

 

My Astrology Journey

My astrology studies began with Yasemin Boran, who took me under her wing in 2005, during a rather difficult period of my life, and introduced me to astrology in a way that completely changed my path.

I began with Classical Western Astrology, followed by Modern Western Astrology, and gradually explored many different branches and approaches.

Over the years, my studies have included:

Esoteric Astrology

​

I studied Esoteric Astrology with Yeşne Karaca İren of Astroloji Okulu and Michael Bartlett of Kepler College.

And just to clarify: when I say Esoteric Astrology, I mean a distinct astrological approach with its own framework and techniques—not simply the fact that astrology itself is an esoteric subject.

Relationship Astrology - Synastry

​

Relationship astrology naturally became one of my favourite areas.

I studied relationship astrology extensively, particularly with Sevilay Eriçdem and Zafer Özyiğit.

And, as tends to happen when you are an astrologer, having friends who fall in love provides an endless supply of charts to observe. :)

Today, relationship astrology and synastry remain among the areas I particularly enjoy exploring with clients.

Horary Astrology

​

Then came Horary Astrology, or Hour astrology, about questions.

I studied Horary with Hakan Kırkoğlu and Devrim Dayıoğlu.

Horary allows us to approach a specific question through the astrology of the moment the question is asked.

It can be used for many different kinds of questions—and yes, finding lost objects is still one of my favourite applications. :)

Electional Astrology & Timing

​

I also studied Electional Astrology, a fascinating branch concerned with choosing appropriate moments for particular actions.

For this work, I studied with Devrim Dayıoğlu and Chris Brennan, from whom I also studied electional astrology and chart rectification.

Timing is one of the aspects of astrology I find particularly fascinating: not simply asking what is happening?, but also when?

Uranian Astrology

​

I later incorporated Uranian Astrology into my studies and practice, particularly with Sevilay Eriçdem.

It is an extremely detailed system and yes, all those asteroids can make your eyes hurt. :)

Relocation Astrology

​

Relocation Astrology is another area that fascinates me because it asks a wonderfully practical question:

Where might different parts of our lives work differently?

I developed my knowledge in this area through the work of Kenan Yasin Bölükbaşı, with whom I also studied Karma Astrology.

Karma & Angel Astrology

​

I explored Angel Astrology with Alexander Imsiragic, and continued my studies in Karma Astrology and Advanced Karma Astrology with Sevilay Eriçdem.

One thing you will probably notice about me is that I rarely study a subject from only one person.

I like comparing perspectives.

I like asking questions.

And I like finding the places where different schools of thought meet or disagree.

Kabbalistic Astrology

​

Kabbalah has long been one of my personal areas of interest, so studying Kabbalistic Astrology was a natural step for me.

I studied Kabbalistic Astrology with Mine Örs, whose knowledge and approach I greatly value.

Corpus Hermeticum

​

I also continued my studies with Oğuzhan Ceyhan, including Corpus Hermeticum and several advanced classes.

In Karma Astrology, I studied with Zafer Özyiğit at Troy Academy and continued exploring the subject through his work.

Venus Star Point

​

More recently, I studied Venus Star Point with Julia Simas.

And, knowing myself, I suspect this list will never really be finished.

There is always another book.

Another teacher.

Another technique.

Another rabbit hole.

And, naturally, I will follow it. :)

Chinese Astrology & Feng Shui

​

Eventually, Western astrology was not enough for my curiosity either.

I began studying Chinese Astrology with Ceren Sakin, and I am currently continuing my studies in Feng Shui.

Chinese Astrology opened another fascinating perspective for me: a different cosmological system, a different way of understanding time, cycles, elements and the relationship between people and their environment.

And this is one of the reasons I find Feng Shui so compelling.

Astrology can help us understand the timing and patterns in our lives.

Feng Shui asks another practical question:

What can we change in the environment around us to work with those energies more effectively?

For me, these traditions are not competing systems. They can complement one another beautifully.

Maya Astrology & Vedic Astrology

​

My curiosity has also taken me into Maya Astrology and Vedic Astrology.

I first studied Maya Astrology with a Guatemalan shaman during the Covid period and later returned to the subject with Gülçin, from whom I continued my studies.

I also began studying Vedic Astrology with Funda Sağışman and continued into my second year of study.

Apparently, three major astrological traditions were not enough for me.

So here we are. :)

So,

What Does All This Mean for My Astrology Practice?

Ultimately, all these years of study come down to one thing:

the chart in front of me.

When you book an astrology chart reading with me, I am not interested in giving you a generic list of planetary meanings.

I want to understand the story your chart is telling.

Your natal chart can be explored through many different lenses: personality and life patterns, relationships, timing, career and direction, relocation, recurring themes, personal development and the questions that matter specifically to you.

Depending on what you are looking for, we may work with Western Astrology, Relationship Astrology, Synastry, Horary Astrology, Electional Astrology, Relocation Astrology, Karma Astrology or other techniques from my years of study.

My approach is curious, analytical and, whenever possible, practical.

Because astrology is most useful to me when it helps us see something differently.

Not because your chart dictates what you must do.

But because sometimes seeing the pattern clearly is enough to give you a completely different set of choices.

Beyond Astrology

I also work with Runes, Rune Wisdom, an area that has been part of my personal interests since my teenage years.

I still remember making my mother walk through the streets of Stockholm with me in search of a Rune set. She probably did not realise at the time what she had started. :)

For me, Runes are much more than a collection of symbols. They are an ancient symbolic system that can encourage us to look at ourselves from another perspective and reveal different layers as we continue working with them.

My interest in Runes, Kabbalah, Mythology, Chinese Astrology and Western Astrology eventually inspired another project close to my heart:

The Enchantress Charms, a jewellery brand created around these symbolic traditions and the intention of bringing a little more beauty into everyday life.

It makes my heart race.

I am hoping it will do the same for you. :)

I Am Still Learning

​

If there is one thing that connects all of this, it is probably this:

I cannot stop learning.

My journey has taken me from Western Astrology to Chinese Astrology, Vedic Astrology and Maya Astrology; from Horary and Relationship Astrology to Karma and Kabbalistic Astrology; from Rune Wisdom to Feng Shui.

And I am quite certain this page will never really be finished.

There will always be another course.

Another book.

Another teacher.

Another fascinating question.

And I will probably go after it.

Because that is how this story started.

And, apparently, that is how it is going to continue.
