What Is Electional Astrology? Why Do We Choose a Date for Important Matters?

There are certain dates in our lives that are not just ordinary days.

The day we get married. The day we move into a new home. The day we found our company. The day we start a new job. The day we sign a contract…

So, since in astrology we believe the sky carries different themes at different times, why not choose the most suitable moment possible when starting something important?

This is exactly what the branch of astrology concerned with this deals with — it’s called electional astrology, and the chosen moment itself is called an election.

What is an election?

The word “election” simply means “finding and choosing the right moment”

In astrology, for an important matter we want to undertake, we try to choose, from the days and weeks ahead, the moment whose sky is most suited to that matter’s purpose.

Because not every moment is the same.

A sky that works beautifully for founding a company may not be equally suitable for a marriage.

A date that might be preferable for signing a contract may not be ideal for moving house.

So the goal here isn’t to find “the most beautiful date,” but to find the date most suited to the matter at hand.

• Marriage

Marriage is the start of a new chapter in our lives. So when choosing a wedding date, a sky that supports the nature of the relationship and long-term partnership can be preferred.

After all, if we’re choosing the venue, the wedding dress and the flowers, we can choose the date too, right?

• Founding a company and starting a new venture

A company’s founding date is considered the starting point of that company’s astrological chart.

If you’re starting a new business, the date chosen for the company launch can be evaluated based on growth, finances, client relationships, sustainability, or the business’s goals. In the same way, the company’s financial life can be tracked by following the outer planet influences the business receives over time.

In the same way, a date can be chosen for starting a new job, launching a new project, or taking the first step of an important venture.

• Buying a home, moving, and renovating

Moving into a new home is, in a sense, opening a new page in our lives too.

The starting date can matter for things like buying a home, moving, transitioning to a new office, or beginning a major renovation.

Why would it be a bad idea to take the first step of a change that will stay in our lives for a long time, at as good a moment as possible?

• Signing a contract

The moment a contract is signed is the moment the relationship between two parties officially begins.

That’s why the signing dates of important, long-term contracts are also one of the areas electional astrology works with.

When it comes to a business partnership, a lease, a commercial agreement, or any other important contract, a suitable moment can be evaluated among the possible dates, so that the venture unfolds more abundantly, profitably, and smoothly.

You might ask, “Do we really choose a date even for a job application?”

But there’s a fact here that I really love:

The child chooses their own time.

You do all the calculations, you look at the sky, and you say, “This hour is perfect!”…

And the baby might say, “I’ll wait a little longer.” 😄

That said, if you’d like and it’s medically possible, a time can be chosen among the suitable options. The decision, of course, is yours and your doctor’s. But I don’t want to skip over something I generally like to say: those calculated dates almost never hold. Very rarely. I calculated a date for one of my closest friends four times. Every time, something came up — and on the fifth try, the baby was finally born exactly when they wanted to be born.

• But when it comes to IVF procedure to choose a more beneficial time is of the essence.

So why should we choose a date?

Because we don’t have to leave the important beginnings in our lives entirely to chance.

Just as we look at a home’s location, size and light when buying it, we can also look at the sky of that beginning when starting something important.

The purpose of electional astrology is not to control life.

Life will keep bringing its own surprises regardless.

But if there’s an area where we can make a choice, why not choose the time that’s more favorable for us?

Sometimes the whole matter is as much about starting at the right time as it is about doing the right thing.
